Schlumberger's self-healing active set-cement technology FUTUR has earned the OTC 2008 Spotlight on New Technology Award.

This revolutionary substance boasts the ability to automatically repair cracks in the well cement caused by post-completion changes in the regional stress field.

Cracks occur because of pressure and temperature changes, both during production and after a well has been abandoned. Reacting to hydrocarbon-based fluid leaks, FUTUR is signaled into action at the start of a crack, and the cement starts self-correcting. Saving both time and money, FUTUR negates the need for surface intervention on wells for hydrocarbon leaks.

Schlumberger is one of the world's leading oil field service providers, pushing the envelope with state-of-the-art products and innovative technologies.
